Squad
Squads are usually centred around their best athlete, they're the important one and everyone else is second. We decided there was a better way when we started in 2012. That is that every squad member is important.
It works because we all bring something, whether enthusiasm, life experience or knowledge from other sports. That knowledge can be really valuable to fellow athletes in the squad and we encourage all to share their knowledge.
The other key ingredient, is purpose. The athletes in this squad, all want to improve, test their limits and thats infectuous and spread through the squad.

Education
Like above I looked to other sports to expand my knowledge and develop my coaching. It is still part of my routine, to search out and learn new ideas to develop athletes. Our weekly communication includes education relevant to the races approaching and we have 90+ members articles / presentations from highlighting behavivours inhibiting athletes and how to change to improve performance through mental skills and approaches.

Flexibility of approach
We have used a polarised approach since the squad's early beginnings. It's the most effective approach to endurance sports and our starting point for new athletes. But we are not limited to that approach and have used Pyramidal, HIIT blocks and alternative approaches at certain times successfully with individual athletes.
